This week, I spent some time with Andrew Fox , CEO at Foxy Digital, walking through the process of my infamous Goal Pyramid.
It’s a framework we use at Process Distillery not just for business strategy, but for life strategy.
When people think about “business goals,” they usually jump straight to revenue targets or market share. But if you look at the Goal Pyramid worksheet we use, you’ll notice the foundation is split right down the middle:
Professional (Left Side)
Personal (Right Side)
If you don’t work both sides, the structure collapses. As the worksheet reminds us, if you don’t make time for personal goals, your long-term and ultimate goals become impossible. You cannot build toward the peak if you burn out the engine—you—on the way up.
Speaking of the peak—the top of the pyramid is reserved for your “Ultimate Goal.”
This should be something greater than yourself. For me, that goal is simple: Heaven.
That North Star shifts how I view every decision below it. It means my business isn’t just about profit; it’s about stewardship.
That is exactly why we implement our S3 Methodology (Standardize, Stabilize, Simplify) for our clients.
We don’t just standardize technology or “distill” complex processes to save you money. We do it to save you time. We stabilize operations so you aren’t fighting fires at 7:00 PM on a Friday. We simplify workflows so the “Professional” side doesn’t cannibalize the “Personal” side.
Great businesses are built by balanced leaders who know exactly where they are going.
Thank you, Andrew, for the great conversation.
Question for my network: Do you have a defined “Ultimate Goal” that sits above your business objectives? Or are you just climbing without a peak in sight?
